I heard an interesting story from my parents today. However, its authenticity can not be guaranteed. There was this student in year 10 who went to Ivanhoe gramma, got 75% scholarship, extremely smart, and committed suicide! What a pity, what a shame? I gathered from parents that the poor boy went through what most Chinese boys went through Single child Talented Forced to study hard Parents that would never appreciate his work always telling him to achieve further and become better than what he already is Was not allowed to play games I think to myself, where has the boy gone wrong? Was it the lack of self esteem, was it the lack of friends, was it the fact that he did not see any purpose to live, was it because he believed that everything he has achieved and created is worth nothing? I felt that we all went through a certain degree of what this boy probably went through, the meaningless of life… But committing suicide was definitely the wrong thing to do, if only he could talk to someone, an optimist, a person who could tell him that he can only find meaning to his life by finding a purpose. That he would find that purpose if only he had the courage to step out and live his life insteadof taking it away. Play some sports, nurture your hobbies, develop you musical skills and make new friends. I feel that for a student, academia should only be the outline of the picture not the entire painting. It’s what you do besides studies that conceive the colours for the masterpiece of life.
